My sister got this for me to try out awhile back and it took me way to long to get around to reading it.My main reason for wanting to read this was to see what modern authors had done with my beloved Nancy Drew I can t say I was overly impressed While the writing style was cute, and the descriptions of the island were great, the whole book just fell flat First off, I had no idea how old the characters were While the cover shows a tween girl, Nancy also talks about her boyfriend, so I really My sister got this for me to try out awhile back and it took me way to long to get around to reading it.My main reason for wanting to read this was to see what modern authors had done with my beloved Nancy Drew I can t say I was overly impressed While the writing style was cute, and the descriptions of the island were great, the whole book just fell flat First off, I had no idea how old the characters were While the cover shows a tween girl, Nancy also talks about her boyfriend, so I really wasn t sure how old she was supposed to be in this Second, the characters weren t nearly as polite or nice to each other as they were in the original Overall, it was an okay book, but as a fan of the original, I just found this a bit grating

I knew the culprit almost from the beginning, so that made the story a bit boring.

very weak 3 starThis dairies book wasn t as good as the others I was still glad I listened to it since it is part of the series But although the others were a firm 3 not bad but not really good either this one was just mediocre to me I found my thoughts drifting away as I listened and had to remind myself to get back into the story And no you do not need to read the others in the series to read this one I can be a stand alone book if need be.

Rating due diligence 10When I picked this up I thought I wouldn t like it because of the cover The cover isn t bad, it s just not my style Maybe I should do cover review for these books, haha Now that I ve read the story I appreciate it a lotThe colour palette works well for the atmosphere, most of the time.ANYWAYS, I m glad we are working up the star ladder this is the strongest book yet The Phantom of Nantucket is a very contained story that knows where it s going from the start Rating due diligence 10When I picked this up I thought I wouldn t like it because of the cover The cover isn t bad, it s just not my style Maybe I should do cover review for these books, haha Now that I ve read the story I appreciate it a lotThe colour palette works well for the atmosphere, most of the time.ANYWAYS, I m glad we are working up the star ladder this is the strongest book yet The Phantom of Nantucket is a very contained story that knows where it s going from the start and delivers I really liked the cast of characters We understand them at a much deeper level and they get their own arcs I also loved the sleuthing in this book Nancy reaches new heights when it comes to justifying suspects and narrowing them down everything was explained logically and in ways that are perhaps obvious, but not realized, if that makes sense I can t say other positives without spoiling, so let s go into the flaws.Oopsy Daisies I think writing was the biggest weakest here I don t understand why we are introduced to Bess and George again, considering this is the 7th book in a series, even though it can stand on it s own, it s annoying p I also feel like their descriptions change every time view spoiler I don t remember George being this obsessed with the internet, but whatever hide spoiler Some of this is basic stuff, for exampleI don t remember I heard George say. You never need to write I hear something If it s being stated in the text, then obviously Nancy can hear it It pulled me out of the story because I was expecting to see a beat the physical action of a character after while before speaking or a dialogue tag I said , as this is the standard format of writing dialogue There was one moment where George tells Nancy why Bess is acting in a particular way 1 We were previously given this piece of information in the narrative and 2 The three of them are best friends, so why would George tell Nancy something she already knows My favourite example of this is from the Galavant TV series King Richard You know how today we re heading into The Land of the Giants to offer them the Jewel of Valencia in exchange for joining our quest to save Princess Isabella Galavant Yes, we discussed it last night in great detail There s no need for your clunky exposition. There were other mistakes like saying things that contradict previous actions, strange ways to info dump, and sentences that need line editing The rest is spoilers Spoils section view spoiler The tension near the end I was very anxious to see how Nancy was going to solve the case before the exhibit started However, kind of unfortunate that the only reason the case wasn t solved earlier is being Nancy didn t tell Jenna about the incident with Marni and George I think humans have an obligation to face their pasts, Pete explained Both the good parts and the bad parts I think it was good for someone to teach me that the past isn t just the past It affects the present The themes are tradition time, relationships envy, and truth.Should we preserve tradition even if it holds us back in time I won t go to much into this, but tradition is one of my favourite themes The world changes and sometimes you are forced pressured to change with it Or you resist it, when you shouldn t.Connor and Kelsey both struggled with envy and responding well to other peoples success It s nice to see Conner had a sort of redemption arc and that Kelsey admitted her mistakes Jenna had problems with balancing her relationships and her passions Conner had it coming though, lets be honest And of course, Marni, caught between family and friend I didn t suspect Marni at all, though looking back it s obvious I completely agree that while the truth can hurt, we have an obligation to look at it, otherwise how can we learn we ll remain the same.PS Mike is the most useless character that I m sure most people have forgotten And where did the two workers go that had the keys Lol, they were mentioned and never brought up again And of course the title is irrelevant to the story hide spoiler
