I very much enjoyed the first book in this series, but this was a disappointing sequel The cover is gorgeous, and I loved some small aspects like the pastor and his wife visiting Robert in juvie , but the story itself was generally not satisfying I as always love the representation of disabilities and other special issues, but this book had so many jampacked into it, it ended up feeling melodramatic and unrealistic without giving any of the issues room to really shine I understand that th I very much enjoyed the first book in this series, but this was a disappointing sequel The cover is gorgeous, and I loved some small aspects like the pastor and his wife visiting Robert in juvie , but the story itself was generally not satisfying I as always love the representation of disabilities and other special issues, but this book had so many jampacked into it, it ended up feeling melodramatic and unrealistic without giving any of the issues room to really shine I understand that the author is a therapist, so she would know better than I would about believability, but this felt like too much The thing that irked me the most about this book is how much the adults disrespected River I understand her not being in control of the final decisions on things that s totally appropriate for a minor but after all she has been through, I would have really appreciatedtalking through things before view spoiler rushing her into a brace or keeping her birth mother a secret or remarrying and suddenly giving her a stepbrother, oh, and agreeing to shut off her Gram s life support Question, did they even have the legal say to be able to do that hide spoiler I do understand that it is a short book, so everything feeling rushed makes sense, but the way the adults in her life treated her was not my favorite I won t be re reading this one or sharing it with my younger sisters as I had originally intended

It was alright I didn t like it a whole bunch The plotline was interesting and made me wonder what was going to happen, but there was ZERO EMOTION translated to the reader First her best friend dies and nobody acts like it s a big deal even though it s written that maybe it was supposed to be a big deal it never was Billy was River s BEST friend and we find out she cried the day after he died once like halfway through the book Yes, River cried After multiple times saying she s only cried It was alright I didn t like it a whole bunch The plotline was interesting and made me wonder what was going to happen, but there was ZERO EMOTION translated to the reader First her best friend dies and nobody acts like it s a big deal even though it s written that maybe it was supposed to be a big deal it never was Billy was River s BEST friend and we find out she cried the day after he died once like halfway through the book Yes, River cried After multiple times saying she s only cried so and so many times in her life But she cried quite a few times in the book so that was hard to believe Also, his family had absolutely no grief about losing him which is just super odd It was crazy Just I don t even know I felt NOTHING while reading It was like reading a news article on the girl s life I guess Thank you though, for the cover because I really did like and appreciate that
