Knjigo sem prebral menda že trikrat in jo bom zagotovo spet.

I'm still not sure what I could say about Tortilla Flat. I read Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men a few years ago and thoroughly loved it, so when I finally figured out he'd written fiction with an Arthurian theme I was ecstatic: Here was my reason to tackle more Steinbeck now!

Sadly, especially the beginning failed to pull me in and, instead, bored me so much that I put the book aside in favour of others. The last few chapters, when I finally reached them, redeemed that impression of boredom, mostly because the Arthurian theme became very apparent, so that mostly I wish I'd just pushed through the beginning to reach the parts I could connect to better. The characters were finally established in their relationships to each other, were quirky, and I could relate to their moral struggles so much better.

I guess I'll try this another time, and then in English too - for now the German version was staring me in the face, so I took the easier road of reading that instead of procuring the original version. That possibly contributed to how it failed to interest me from the start as well.
