I love almost everything Janette Oke writes and this book was no exception Oke and T Davis Bunn make an incredible writing team and this is now my favourite one of theirs I particularly like how they really show you the heart of each character and make you feel their pain, joy and sorrow It was a moving story about an adopted daughter who grows up with a controlling mother and meets with shocking surprises, and her biological brother who grows up in an unhappy home but finds true joy in God I love almost everything Janette Oke writes and this book was no exception Oke and T Davis Bunn make an incredible writing team and this is now my favourite one of theirs I particularly like how they really show you the heart of each character and make you feel their pain, joy and sorrow It was a moving story about an adopted daughter who grows up with a controlling mother and meets with shocking surprises, and her biological brother who grows up in an unhappy home but finds true joy in God One thing I wished as soon as I finished reading it was that there was an epilogue the ending seemed kind of abrupt and I didn t want it to end Then I found out there was a sequel hooray I really loved this bookdefinitely a 5 star read

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here I didn t like ending It was rather unsatisfactory. While the ending gave reason to believe that Joel would get better, and I can understand why Janette Oke would end it this way, since he was one of the MCs, I feel we have the right to know what happens. Also, Kyle seemed to change all of a sudden and I found it difficult reconciling the young and grown up Kyle.

Spoiler alert the book was good and faith focused, as one would expect from Janette Oke The best part for me was the heroine s evolution She grew up adopted with a mother who didn t want her, who criticized everything she did, never showed love, etc Seeing her finally reach the point where she stands up to her mother who is trying to manipulate every aspect of her life in a way that makes mother rich and powerful Sickening actually, and oh so wonderful, when Kyle stands up to her and Spoiler alert the book was good and faith focused, as one would expect from Janette Oke The best part for me was the heroine s evolution She grew up adopted with a mother who didn t want her, who criticized everything she did, never showed love, etc Seeing her finally reach the point where she stands up to her mother who is trying to manipulate every aspect of her life in a way that makes mother rich and powerful Sickening actually, and oh so wonderful, when Kyle stands up to her and takes control of what is rightfully hers Encouraging to anyone who has ever been afraid to stand up for themselves

This was a very good story that went from WWII through the 60 s It was a different plot than I ve read before so that was refreshing There were no super nasty villains and the main characters were likable and believable It covered the effects of war on people and how they recover from loss It was a story of love, forgiveness, hope and faith It is Christian fiction, so it was preachy But I would rather read words of faith in God than a bunch of nasty curse words when people go through diffi This was a very good story that went from WWII through the 60 s It was a different plot than I ve read before so that was refreshing There were no super nasty villains and the main characters were likable and believable It covered the effects of war on people and how they recover from loss It was a story of love, forgiveness, hope and faith It is Christian fiction, so it was preachy But I would rather read words of faith in God than a bunch of nasty curse words when people go through difficulties The narrator also did a very good job reading it

This was a great book I wasn t expecting the characters to come back together the way that they did, but that honestly made the story even better There are not many books that I find that I get attached to the characters like I did with this story I think that there are so many different points in this story that are very accurate and that you can relate to I found that I was laughing and crying and being totally baffled right along with the characters Really wonderfully written and just a This was a great book I wasn t expecting the characters to come back together the way that they did, but that honestly made the story even better There are not many books that I find that I get attached to the characters like I did with this story I think that there are so many different points in this story that are very accurate and that you can relate to I found that I was laughing and crying and being totally baffled right along with the characters Really wonderfully written and just a great story Also I totally enjoyed the way that God and Jesus are discussed in this book

This is a case of the book getting released with a new cover and me not realizing it I wish I had though The reason I didn t remember reading this before, but maybe that s because I didn t really like the book in the first place Although there are a few good characters, the overall plot fails for me Some of the turns the book takes feel forced I enjoy many of Oke s books, but this one not so much.
