    Beating the Marriage Odds When You are Smart, Single and Over 35An interesting book, written in 1990 This book is beyond much of my experience I have few friends who are single, divorced or widowed and wanting to remarry.But by the time I finished reading this book, I felt as if I knew most of the people whose lives and struggles and successes she described I also felt that I understood them She is a positive writer, dissecting the stories of the people she interviewed to show what worked an Beating the Marriage Odds When You are Smart, Single and Over 35An interesting book, written in 1990 This book is beyond much of my experience I have few friends who are single, divorced or widowed and wanting to remarry.But by the time I finished reading this book, I felt as if I knew most of the people whose lives and struggles and successes she described I also felt that I understood them She is a positive writer, dissecting the stories of the people she interviewed to show what worked and what did not Her constant approach is that this is what did not work, and this is what can be done Her attitude is that there is always someone out there who is just right for you and that person simply needs to be found Instead of providing a lot of psychology and technical terms, the author has interviewed many people and has generalized the principles that seem to cause people to fail in their relationships and those which cause people to succeed even after decades of unsuccessful relationships.She is simple, straight forward, optimistic, realistic and practical No ivory tower, out of touch, impractical theories Just what works By the time you finish reading this book, it is easy to believe that everyone CAN find the right person.I do not know if this book could be considered out of date The statistics are definitely out of date but the psychological principles seem valid to me.Whether or not this book is relevant to you, it is sure to be relevant to somebody you know who is going through this experience.This book is written for both men and women, although it focusesfrequently on the experience of the woman However, obviously where a woman finds her man , there is a man who has also found his woman I hate using those terms, but I can t think of another way to express this I do not intend to appear offensive to anyone This book is useful to everyone as she describes an experience from the perspective of the female, she also describes the perspective of the male.Definitely not a self help book with a lot of rules, just a book that shows so many examples of what works, so that by the time you have finished reading it, you have learned from the experiences of others so that you don t need to learn from your own mistakes
